About CodePLC

CodePLC teaches industrial controls the way you learn it on the job: on real circuits, with real prints, by finding what's wrong and fixing it safely.

I'm David, a controls engineer. I've spent about a decade troubleshooting, programming and commissioning automated machines. Most of what made me useful on the job I learned the hard way, in front of a panel, with a meter and a set of prints. Very little of it was in a course.

I started CodePLC on social media to share the practical side of the work, and 110,000+ people now follow along. CodePLC Labs grew out of the questions they asked most: where do I start, what do I need, and how do I get my first controls job?

CodePLC Labs is the part I most wanted to exist when I started: a lab where anyone can wire up a meter, lock out a machine, chase down a fault on the prints and write the program, as many times as it takes, without a trainer, a PLC or a live panel.

How we teach

  • Technically right, first. Lessons follow US practice: NFPA 70E, OSHA lockout, NFPA 79, the NEC and UL 508A, and IEC 61131-3 for the PLC. The readings in Labs are what a real device would show.
  • Safety as a habit. Every lockout is followed by proving the circuit dead, every time, until it's automatic.
  • Proof over promises. We won't promise you a job or a salary. Checkpoints with unseen faults and no hints show what you can do, and your portfolio shows it to an employer.
